Uber Drivers and GST

The Federal Court of Australia this year determined that Ubers were the same as taxis.

The relevance of this judgement sits in s 144-5 of the GST Act which mandates that enterprises supplying taxi travel must be registered for GST. That is, no registration turnover threshold (currently $75,000 per annum) applies. GST will apply both in the start-up and the close-down of the enterprises.
